Department
The Online Technology Group (OTG) within Future Media is responsible for the operation and management of the BBC’s online, mobile and connected TV infrastructure. This includes media streaming, web platforms and network & distribution channels for all digital media.
Role
We are looking for you to work in an operational role with the relevant stakeholders to provide continuity and support for Applications/Systems as part of a Multi-disciplinary team; responsible for the operational integrity and availability of the BBC’s Online services.
Key Accountabilities:
• Understanding, in depth, the business processes supported by the system
• Ensuring Processes and Outputs are error free and complete
• Providing relevant capacity planning, monitoring, and maintenance of designated system(s) Identifying trends or problems (as defined under ITIL).
• Acting as an interface between Operations, its internal and external suppliers (e.g. Atos) and other stakeholders for problems, requests and changes.
• Working with Development /Product to ensure applications are built to take account of Non Functional requirements (NFR) – operational considerations
• Ensuring continuity and quality by owning the resolution of system issues. Tracking progress and escalating as appropriate unless resolution reached
• Monitoring and maintaining the security, consistency, and coherence of supported services.

Requirements
Essential Skills
• A minimum of two years’ experience in an application support or systems support role in a LAMP or Unix Environment.
• Experience of Application deployment, configuration and maintenance under multiple Server Operating System environments
• Experience of System administration in a Linux Environment
• Experience of scripting languages e.g. Bash, PHP, PERL
• Experience in resolving problems across a multi platform environment.
• At least two year’s previous experience in a support or customer-facing role.
• Willing to work flexible hours as befits the type of service provided.
• Experience of monitoring of service, performance and capacity thresholds
• Experience of managing third parties
Desirable Skills
• Experience of integration, application protocols, standards, and related technologies.
• Experience of XML, database connectivity
• Experience of no-SQL environments
• Experience of Open-Source tools
• Experience of programming languages e.g. Ruby, Python, Java
• Experience of Automation e.g. Puppet, Chef
• Experience of working in a ‘DevOps’ environment/culture
Experience of Agile methodologies
