Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) invests in academic researchers and research teams who are most likely to generate new knowledge, leading edge technologies and competitive enterprises in the fields of science and engineering underpinning three broad areas: Biotechnology, Information and communications technology (ICT) and Sustainable energy and energy-efficient technologies (Energy).

SFI is now recruiting a Communications, Strategy and Outreach Director with responsibility for developing and implementing SFI’s strategy in conjunction with the Director General of SFI. He/she must be capable of translating a 20 year horizon in science, engineering and ICT and inform the direction of SFI. He/she must be a visionary, excellent communicator, good networker, and able to deal at the most senior level in industry, academia and government.

He/she will be the external liaison person for SFI expected to develop and maintain a good knowledge base of existing research funding schemes and to leverage funding from the EU, Industry, Philanthropic, Charitable and International sources. The Director will lead on SFIs Outreach & Science Awareness activities.

SFI is a lean Organisation (approx. 50 staff) and the successful candidate must be energetic, flexible and able to initiate and manage change.

He /she must have a PhD in an area underpinning Biotechnology, ICT or Energy and a proven track record of senior management in government, academia or industry.
