We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, self-motivated, and service-orientated professional for the position of Research Assistant in the Socio-economics Program.

The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, known by its Spanish acronym, CIMMYT®, is a not-for-profit research and training organization with partners in over 100 countries. Please refer to our website for more information:www.cimmyt.org.

The position will be based at CIMMYT’s Main Campus (located 45 km northeast of Mexico City, Mexico).

Specific responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Analyze and interpret quantitative data using different statistics methods and providing statistical and economic data for inclusion in publications.
  • Perform literature revisions and analyses for incorporation into databases and gathering information.
  • Do quantitative/qualitative interviews and surveys with farmers and key informers.
  • Coordinate field trips with Center researchers and/or other collaborators.
  • Manage and maintain databases to ensure all is up to date.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

We are seeking candidates with the following qualification, skills and attitudes:

  • Master degree in Agricultural Economics, Statistics, Rural Development or related area.
  • Three or more years of work experience in the related area.
  • Experience in gender analysis and/or field experience with medium-size and small scale farmers will be an advantage.
  • Good analytical and scientific writing skills
  • Advanced level of English and excellent knowledge of Spanish.
  • Proficient in IT (MS Office) and good working knowledge of statistics-related software such as STATA or SPSS.
  • Candidates will be required to travel to various regions within Mexico. Time flexibility is required.
  • Valid Driver´s License.
