Subsea Superintendent(Offshore Rotational)


Ocean Rig's International operations are expanding with 4 Newbuild Ultra - Deepwater 7th Generation Drillships with three operational in 2013 and one in late 2014. This will add to our existing fleet of six vessels: two semi-submersible rigs and four ultra-deepwater drillships which are currently operating worldwide in various locations.

The Subsea Superintendent reports to the Subsea Manager and in his absence to the onshore Subsea Superintendents and when on the rig also reports to the Rig Superintendent as part of the Rig Management reporting schedule.
Main responsibilities:
  • Support the rig Subsea operations during rig moves and assist with coaching and training of all members of the rig subsea department in all aspect of their work including star and classification work.
  • Provide support and advice on Subsea related matters.
  • During rig visits supply operation support in subsea hydraulic competence and BOP control expertise.
  • Ensure that the subsea maintenance is professionally and timely executed in accordance with the STAR maintenance system by monitoring the system on each visit to a rig.
  • At the end of a rig move review with the Subsea Section Leader and the Technical Section Leader all the well control related PMS and equipment repairs that have completed in the correct manner and that the maintenance system has been properly updated with all the relevant information.  In addition assess the efficiency of how the maintenance was carried and advise on how the system and methods could be approved.
  • Ensure that the recommendations from the authorities and the Class are planned and executed timely by the responsible rig management onshore and offshore.
  • Keep up to date with relevant authorities and classes rules and regulations for mobile rigs.
  • Assist as necessary with the planning and execution of modifications, up-grading and yard stays for the rig(s) upon request from the Subsea Manager, Subsea Superintendents, Rig Managers, VP Technical and VP Operations.
  • Assist to verify that all modifications and repairs of the rig(s) are planned and executed in a safe manner without jeopardizing safety and health of personnel and safety of rig and environment.
  • Assist the rig management in evaluating and completing Modification requests from the rigs.
  • Offer service and assistance to the Operations department.
  • Offer assistance to the rig management in planning budgets for repair and maintenance of the rig(s).
  • Perform technical inspection/audits of the drilling units subsea equipment on a regular basis.
  • Assist the rig onboard team in incident investigation and equipment failures analyzes to ensure lessons learned are captured and following throuhg across the fleet.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the Technical Group, Operations Group and Project Groups are applicable.
  • Regular communication with Operational Group and Project Group as applicable.
  • Continuous subsea equipment and process auditing including STAR system quality information.
  • Lesson learned shared between vessels.
  • Supporting Rig Teams in RCA ensuring that these are conducted to a high level of detail with follow up/close out.
  • Company policy and procedure compliance.
Required Experience:
  • The Subsea Superintendent must have a minimum of ten years subsea experience on offshore floating drilling rigs and has worked as a Senior Subsea Engineer for a minimum of five years on offshore floating drilling rigs with deepwater operational experience.
  • Must be well acquainted with data based maintenance and spare parts systems.
  • Must be familiar with the units Subsea, Technical and Drilling Systems.
  • Must be acquainted with all applicable requirements for mobile rigs from relevant Authorities and Class societies.
  • Experience with Cameron TL and Shaffer NXT equipment.
  • The person concerned should be analytical and systematic.
Required Qualifications and Certificates: All certificates must be current and internationally recognized
  • 2 year Technical College or a City and Guilds trade certificate in mechanical, electrical or equivalent as well as relevant practical or theoretical training on the relevant equipment.
  • Good communication skills in English both verbally and in writing.
