Materials Testing Techs

McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd. seeks Engineering Technologists – Materials Testing for our branches in Northern BC (Kitimat, Prince George, Prince Rupert, Smithers and Terrace); these branches are regional leaders in civil, structural & geotechnical engineering, surveying, materials testing and environmental consulting in the transportation, municipal and industrial sectors.

Required Skills

• Working as part of a team of highly skilled engineers, technicians, surveyors and drafters to provide excellent service to our clients
• Conducting laboratory Sieve Analysis, Moisture Density Relationships (Proctors), Hydrometers, and Atterberg Limits
• Conducting laboratory Hot Mix Asphalt testing and Concrete field sampling and testing
• Conducting Field Compaction testing using a nuclear densometer
• Timely preparation of reports
• Supervising junior staff and contractors on relevant projects
• Assisting with proposal preparation and business development, and assisting the Materials Testing Manager as needed for planning and marketing initiatives

Required Experience

• A diploma in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering Technology and at least 2 years’ progressive experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Previous related experience providing Materials Testing and geotechnical investigations/field reviews, as well as Quality Control and Quality Assurance in the field and in a lab environment
• Good attitude and willingness to work cooperatively as a team player
• Prior supervisory and/or leadership experience is an asset
• Strong communication skills and leadership capabilities

For certain branch locations, due to site entrance requirements, you will be required to undergo pre-employment and ongoing site access drug and alcohol testing.
