Senior Associates - “European Energiewende”

Germany's Energiewende is one of the most ambitious projects in the field of energy policy. However, the German power system is highly integrated into the European system. Cooperation among European partners will make the transition of German and European power systems easier and less expensive. Therefore, Agora Energiewende is building a new team in order to initiate dialogues between stakeholders in Germany and neighbouring countries as well as with the European institutions and to develop joint solutions for the upcoming challenges.
For this task, we are looking for several Senior Associates “European Energiewende”.

Your responsibilities would include:

  • Analysing the facts and overviewing the political landscape in one or several of the following areas: power market design, European energy law, demand response, renewable energy, conventional generation, energy efficiency, storage and grid infrastructure;
  • Initiating and facilitating bi-national and regional working groups; working with European institutions;
  • Close cooperation with partners from neighbouring countries;
  • Commissioning and overviewing research on relevant topics.

Your key competencies and characteristics:

  • Profound understanding of the German and European energy system/market;
  • University degree and 5+ years of professional experience;
  • Self-starter capable of working autonomously;
  • Outstanding network skills and experience working in international teams;
  • Political savvy, excellent knowledge of the political system of the European Union;
  • Ability to work under pressure, willingness to travel;
  • Team player, very good communication skills;
  • Excellent English and German; additional languages – French, Polish or others – are a bonus.

Agora Energiewende was initiated in April 2012 by the Mercator Foundation and the European Climate Foundation in order to support the realisation of Germany’s Energiewende. Under the direction of former secretary of state Rainer Baake, the ten-member team works closely with key stakeholders in the field of energy policy. We commission research, initiate dialogues and address the key questions in regard to the realisation of the Energiewende. The focus is on the transformation of the power system.
