Senior Public Affairs Manager, Brussels

Novozymes’ EU-Office, located in Brussels is looking to recruit a Senior Public Affairs Manager. The successful candidate will manage and execute advocacy strategies aimed at influencing the outcome of policies affecting Novozymes business, strategy and reputation. She/he will be expected to work both independently and closely with colleagues in the Brussels office and headquarter in Denmark as well as other regions.

The position will focus on policy advocacy and public relations: activities aimed at influencing legislative processes in the EU, especially within energy, agriculture, and food.

Qualifications

  • 5 - 10 years of experience in public affairs and government relations including 5 years in Brussels;
  • Solid knowledge of the EU institutions and the decision-making process;
  • Capacity to manage complex and science based issues, incl. the ability to craft legislative language;
  • Excellent business understanding, commercial mindset and political awareness;
  • Act as representative of Novozymes;
  • Good communicator, negotiator and coalition builder;
  • Practical experience with EU industrial, agricultural, or energy policies;
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural and diverse stakeholder environment;
  • Fluent in English and ability to work effectively in at least one other EU language.

Challenges:

  • Anticipate policy change and identify business challenges and opportunities;
  • Advise Novozymes business on EU policy issues, and advocacy strategy;
  • Devise and implement advocacy plans (define desired policy out comes, develop position papers, run engagement programs, draft media statements, etc.);
  • Maintain dialogue and ensure timely access to key decision-makers (notably the Council, Commission and Parliament) as well as other Brussels-based stakeholders (i.e. Permanent representations, industry associations, international organizations, NGOs, think tanks, media);
  • Maintain and manage relations with the media in support of public affairs objectives;
  • Represent Novozymes in relevant industry associations, platforms and multi-stakeholder alliances;
  • Support wider advocacy towards international stakeholders;
  • Coordinate and maximize synergies among ongoing public affairs/PR activities, co-operating with public affairs colleagues on a global level;
  • Ensure compliance with transparency and ethical standards applied to lobbying activities in the EU.
