TENURE TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (UD) CLOUD AND CROWD GEOINFORMATION INFRASTRUCTURE AND APPLICATIONS

The Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) of the University of Twente provides international postgraduate education, research and project services in the field of geo-information science and earth observation using remote sensing and GIS. The aim of ITC's activities is the international exchange of knowledge, focusing on capacity building and institutional development in developing countries and emerging economies.

The ITC Department of Geo-Information Processing addresses and studies the technological and methodological aspects of geo-information processing and infrastructure to develop technology oriented concepts for the new geo-information society and solve complex application problems.

Functieomschrijving
Cloud and crowd geoinformation systems can typically be used to answer what-if questions and to make quantified assessments about upcoming developments (i.e. they support decision making and scenario development). Technology now offers an open door to fuse authoritative with volunteered in situ data using novel computational models that can reap the benefits of that combination. This position addresses the technology and system design methods for geodata-intensive applications consumed on the web and on mobile devices. It focuses on developing such technology and methods while providing the scientific foundation for geo-applications that meet societal demands.

You conduct and guide research and develop research cooperation, both inside and outside ITC, thereby contributing to the development of the departmental fields of expertise. You teach MSc students, supervise MSc theses, and contribute to the development of educational modules and new educational products (such as distance learning packages). You supervise PhD students in combination with a departmental professor. You may share responsibility in the management of the department.

Uw profiel
You hold a PhD degree in Geoinformation Science or Computer Science, with demonstrable application in the development of methods and techniques of large geo-information systems. You have proof of research experience in the areas of (spatial) crowd-sourcing and/or cloud computing, supported by a strong publication list. Experience in the combination of these two fields, where geo-information systems that involve crowd-sourcing are built with cloud infrastructure is of specific interest to the department, all the more so if they have been built in international development cooperation context. You have experience in teaching, including lecturing and course development. You have undertaken international consulting and/or advising in less developed countries. You have a willingness to undertake international travel to these countries. Preferably you have proven didactic skills and experience in teaching (a University Teacher Qualification certificate (UTQ (‘BKO’) or equivalent) and affinity with a multi-cultural, post-graduate education environment.
