Career Opportunities: Coordinator: Mining Systems


Tropicana represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade. The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.6 million ounces over a 10 year mine life (approved project). Construction began in 2011 and first gold production was achieved in September 2013 ahead of schedule.
We are now seeking an experienced Mining Systems Coordinator to join our Mining team at the Tropicana Gold Mine.
Accountable to the Mining Manager, this role is accountable for the MineStar system management and MMRS mine reporting set-up over the next 6 months. The ongoing role will be the maintenance of the fleet management system, MMRS, supervision of the Mining Systems Technicians, support of contractor progress claims and support to continuous improvement initiatives for the Mining Alliance. This role is site based on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth of Kalgoorlie.
The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:
  • Develop and implement site MineStar system processes and MineStar mine model to ensure efficient operation of the system.
  • Develop and implement site MMRS reporting system processes.
  • Identify opportunities and present recommendations for improvement in mine site operations through changes to MineStar configuration or system usage.
  • Provide the sponsor with KPIs that measure the mine site performance and system KPIs that provide the status of the MineStar system performance.
  • Uses expert knowledge of operations and methods used in the mining process at site to manage the MineStar configuration and the mine model within MineStar to best leverage the functional capability of MineStar.
  • Work with Caterpillar and Westrac to ensure maximum value is being achieved from the MineStar implementation.
  • Responsible for system repair and coordination of support contractors Westrac and Caterpillar.
  • Manage ongoing training for MineStar operators and controllers.
  • Work to ensure reliable wireless communications exist across the mine to allow effective Fleet Management System coverage, including optimising the location of wireless trailers
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A Proficient level of database skills and knowledge
  • 2-3 years’ experience in a similar electronics/communication/systems role
  • Proficient level of computer skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working with fleet management and mining systems
  • C Class Driver’s Licence
  • Permanent work rights in Australia
Candidates with previous mining experience working with MineStar or a similar fleet management system will be held in high regard.
