Technician: Mining Systems


Tropicana represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade. The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.6 million ounces over a 10 year mine life (approved project). Construction began in 2011 and first gold production was achieved in September 2013 ahead of schedule.
We are now seeking a Mining Systems Technician to join our Mining Team at the Tropicana Gold Mine.
Accountable to the Mining Systems Coordinator, this role is responsible for providing support, system planning and troubleshooting for the mine site communication infrastructure, specifically radio systems and the wireless network. This also includes the mining fleet management system, comprising up to 20 x 240t haul trucks. This role is site based operating on an 8/6 FIFO roster.  Whilst onsite technicians will be required to provide on call cover.
The main tasks of the role include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide support, system planning and troubleshooting for the mine site communication infrastructure, specifically radio systems (Tetra Digital, UHF radio) but also the wireless network used by the mine Fleet Management System MineStar to ensure safe and efficient operation of these systems.
  • Provide system administration for the Tetra Digital UHF Radio system.
  • Work with the Mine Star system administrator to ensure reliable wireless communications exist across the mine to allow effective Fleet Management System coverage.
  • Provide hands on first level support for repair and maintenance of MineStar on-board hardware.
  • Inspect communications and electronic systems to ensure compliance with statutory requirements as well as business needs.
  • Analyse equipment failure trends and recommend replacement equipment and components.
  • Maintain the radio Fleetmap for the Tetra Digital UHF Radio Radio System;
  • Repair radios where possible,
  • Build programming and usage processes including emergency radio process
  • Provide training and radio programming for sub-contractors and other staff.
  • Monitor telecommunication systems  performance and actively seek opportunities for continuous improvement
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • 2-3 years’ experience in an electronics/communication/systems role
  • Proficient level of computer skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working with wireless networks and radio systems
  • Rigging Ticket
  • C Class Driver’s Licence
  • Permanent work rights in Australia
