Description
The GSMA mWomen Programme is a London-based, public‐private partnership between the worldwide mobile industry and the international development community, aiming to increase women’s access to and use of mobile phones and life-enhancing mobile services in developing markets. The programme’s objectives are to encourage the mobile industry to serve resource-poor women, increase availability of life-enhancing value-added services, and promote solutions to women’s barriers to use of mobile technology. GSMA mWomen is a programme within GSMA Mobile for Development, which brings together mobile operator members, the wider mobile industry and the development community to drive commercial mobile services for underserved people in emerging markets. We identify opportunities for social, economic and environmental impact and stimulate the development of scalable, life-enhancing mobile services. The GSMA mWomen Programme, which is a partnership with USAID, DFAT, Visa Inc. and GSMA, achieves its objectives through two key sets of activities. First, through grants and consulting support, the team promotes and supports mobile industry and development partner actions to serve women in low- and middle-income countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, in order to test and prove sustainable business models for serving women. Second, building on lessons arising from these and other projects to serve women through mobile, the team also generates and shares insights to encourage and equip partners to reduce the global mobile gender gap. Activities include undertaking bespoke research to determine what works, generating tools and case studies to equip partners for action, and sharing the evidence base broadly to encourage global action. Each team member will generate a portfolio of case studies, insight papers, and other outputs that will be shared via events, workshops, webinars and other channels. • Refine and expand the GSMA mWomen resources for mobile operators. Managers will create a suite of tools to accelerate mobile operators’ entry into the women’s market segment, e.g. case studies, market sizing and partner assessment tools, performance monitoring tools, etc. The new Commercial Programme Manager will join a team of 4 and report to the GSMA mWomen Senior Commercial Programme Manager.
