Project Officer Migration & Development

The Project Officer is responsible for the implementation of the activities of the programme: "The global civil society Migration and Development"( Civil Society MADE).
ADPC is a leading African Diaspora think tank in Europe in the field of migration and development. It is a knowledge platform set up by the Diaspora to spur and gavlanise the contribution of African Diaspora to the development of the continent in a more structured, sustainable and systematic manner. the foundation is devoted to empowering African Diaspora as change agents for the development of Africa and to advocate and contribute to policy and practical changes conducive to stimulating informed policy dialogue and constructive debates between the Diaspora and other stakeholders in the field of Diaspora and development at different levels.
In January 2014 ADPC starts a multi-year project initiated to increase the partnerships and action of civil society in the field of migration and development. The project is funded by the Eurpean Commission under the Thematic Programme of Cooperation with Third Countries in the areas of Migration and Asylum. ADPC is a member of the consortium led by the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) and leads a global thematic working group on Diaspora and development. The duration of the project is from January 2014 to October 2016.
For this project, ADPC islooking for a Project Officer with a proven media outreach, advocacy and communications experience and professional competency to organise expert meetings, workshops conferences and webinars.
Key responsibilities:
- Coordinate global networking activities across countries and continents within the context of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD)
- Organise expert meetings, workshops, conferences and webinars
- Communicate an liase with consortium partners operating in Europe and beyond
- Develop media outreach activities and strategies
- Write articles, policy briefs and thematic reports
- Develop a directory of organistions working on different themes in the field of migration and development
- Manage the overall activities of the project
- Manage the administrative and budgeting requirements of the project
- Write donor reports
- Availability to travel regularly
- Assist the director in the day to day activities related to the project
Required skills and experience:
- Academic qualification in social sciences- masters degree in Development Studies, Migration and Development or Political Economy, preferably with experience in African development
- at least 5 years relevant work experience with the African Diaspora and with development related issues regarding Africa
- at least 5 years of relevant work experience in project management, including finance and fundraising, planning, monitring and evaluation
- Proven media outreach, advocacy and communications experience and professional competency to organise expert meetings, workshops,conferences and webinars
- Experience in writing high quality articles, policy briefs, reports and communication materials for a wider distribution
- Strong analytical and planning skills
- Proven writing and editing skills and high level communication skills
- Outstanding organisation and communication skills within cross cultural settings
- Capable to work independently and in an international team.
