Human Rights Watch ("HRW") is seeking highly-qualified applicants for the position of Associate with the Europe Department.

Description: HRW is seeking an Associate to provide administrative and clerical support to its Europe Department. The Associate's responsibilities include directly supporting the Deputy Executive Director for Europe as well as working closely with the European based-staff. Administrative duties include maintaining communications between global and regional offices; scheduling; making travel arrangements; preparing, drafting, editing, formatting and distributing correspondence and other documents; preparing for and taking minutes at meetings; recruiting and coordinating interns; organizing meetings and external events; recording and tracking departmental finances; creating and maintaining filing and archiving systems; photocopying; faxing; answering phones; processing mail; and other tasks as assigned. The position offers broad exposure to the responsibilities involved in effectively managing a large, global non-governmental organization, and is an excellent entry-level opportunity for candidates interested in the work of Human Rights Watch. HRW anticipates the successful candidate will take up this position in August 2011.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will be self-motivated, extremely well organized, collegial, able to function under pressure and handle numerous tasks simultaneously. S/he must be willing to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as function as a member of a team. Prior knowledge and experience with Raiser's Edge or similar fundraising software is preferred. A Bachelor's degree is required. The successful candidate must be fluent in oral and written English; knowledge of other European languages is highly desirable. Two years work experience as well as a strong interest in international human rights, is advantageous. The ideal applicant will have solid office/administration experience and strong organizational and computer skills. The ability to function in a confidential capacity with tact, discretion and good judgment is required. Applicants for this position must possess current EU work authorization valid for a minimum of two years from start date.
