Deputy Director, Senior Energy Economist DECC

DECC is looking for a senior energy economist to lead the energy economics team within the Energy Markets and Infrastucture (EMI) Group.

The Role

In a Department focused on delivering a large-scale transformation of the energy system, it is critical that there is a dedicated team ensuring that policies in the energy sector are based on a sound evidence base and that the development of policies and of the evidence base is consistent across the three delivery bodies focusing on renewables, nuclear and carbon sequestration and storage.

This is a high profile role leading the energy economics team within the Energy Markets and Infrastucture (EMI) Group. This is an exciting and challenging Senior Civil Service (SCS) post dealing with both domestic and international energy economics. You will play an important role in developing the evidence, and shaping and influencing energy policy.

The team leads on providing and ensuring the coherence of analysis and evidence on energy and market issues across EMI Group and between EMI and DECC.

Key aspects of the role:

  • Leading on analysis, modelling and impact assessments for the Electricity Market Reform Programme;
  • Developing and running central models around plant economics and investor behaviour;
  • Co-ordinating and planning of Impact Assessments for policy decisions.
