Internship China Outbound Tourism Research Institute

COTRI China Outbound Tourism Research Institute is the world’s leading independent research institute for analysis, consulting and quality assessment relating to the Chinese Outbound Tourism market. Based in Heide, Germany, with a Chinese branch in Beijing, COTRI offers a broad range of services, including market research, analysis, consulting and coaching for destinations, companies, and individuals. COTRI cooperates closely with a number of organisations including the West-Coast University in Heide, PATA (Pacific Asia Tourism Association), UNWTO (UN World Tourism Organisation) and CTA (Chinese Tourism Academy).

As an intern at COTRI you will:

  • Learn the way a university-based research institute functions.
  • Get involved in further development of COTRI’s research projects.
  • Be part of an international team working with international partners and customers.

Your main task as an intern will be:
To assist with the editing of the exciting forthcoming COTRI publication: New Chinese Tourists - The Second Wave of China’s Outbound Tourism. This book will discuss the recent developments in Chinese tourism trends and behaviour, with the aim of expanding knowledge to tourism practitioners, as well as researchers and students. This is a book development project and so a desire to use and improve skills in this field is vital.

We expect from the applicant: Desirable, but not mandatory requirements:

  • independent, creative and responsible work
  • excellent command of the English language, preferably Native speaker or working experience
  • good communication skills
  • good user knowledge of MS-Office software
  • experience working/studying in an international setting
  • first-hand practical experience in China and knowledge about China
  • practical experience in a tourism branch, internships and/or jobs
  • previous experience in editing or book development

Full acknowledgement of contribution will be made in the book.

Preferred starting date is November 14th 2011; book has completion date of March 1st 2012.

Job would consist of two short-term stays in Heide, Germany (November for two weeks and then again in February) and then working remotely for the rest of the period.
