Middle East Mental Health Specialist

JOB SUMMARY

The Mental Health Specialist will provide technical support to an International Medical Corps’ mental health program in the Middle East.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work closely with main stakeholders and agencies such as WHO and other national and international NGOs to ensure that mental health and psychosocial programming is coordinated - Direct and supervise activiteis of mental health and rehabilitation project staff - Ensure that all work activities are in keeping with IASC Guidelines for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support and work to promote these guidelines where possible - Participate in relevant meetings including cluster meetings and MHPSS coordination gruop meetings and actively participate in and contribute to different working groups

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • The qualified candidate will be a mental health professional with an MD, specialist in Psychiatry, or equivalent degree (e.g. PhD in Clinical Psychology) with 3+ years of experience in clinical service provision
  • In depth knowledge with 3+ years experience of implementing mental health programs in the humanitarian context
  • Familiarity with IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psyhcosocial Support in Emergency Settings
  • Experience in training medical professionals and non health staff in mental health and/or psychosocial support
  • Very strong organizational and supervisory skills
  • Ability to write comprehensive reports and to organize and present data
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within different cultural environments, honest, hard-working, and self-motivated
  • Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation, flexible, and can cope with stressful workloads and working with limited resources

LANGUAGES

• Fluency in spoken and written English language necessary; preferred proficiency in Arabic
