The Transparency International Secretariat (TI-S) in Berlin is seeking a professional for the position of Senior Programme Coordinator Europe

Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 90 Chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.

Job Title: Senior Programme Coordinator Europe

Starting date: As soon as possible

Duration: 2 years limited term contract, with possibility for extension

Location: TI-Secretariat, Berlin, Germany; with international travel

Department: Europe and Central Asia Department

Reporting lines: Regional Director, Europe and Central Asia Department

Salary: NGO level (for salary rates see www.transparency.org)

Job grade: SPC

Overall Responsibilities:

The Senior Regional Coordinator is responsible for strengthening TI’s presence, reputation and impact in a defined number of countries for which s/he is the primary contact. In these countries, s/he supports the work of TI Chapters at national level and monitors political developments and reputational risks. In alignment with defined organisational and programmatic strategies and objectives, s/he coordinates capacity development and advocacy interventions as well as the implementation of the TI Chapter accreditation policy.

Key responsibilities:

  • Monitor the political situation, anti-corruption developments, reputational risks and media opportunities in countries under direct responsibility in ways that provide timely information to the Regional Director and others at TI, and provide relevant advice to external stakeholders.
  • Support TI Chapters under direct responsibility with their national level representation and advocacy work.
  • Coordinate and implement capacity development, knowledge exchange and governance support interventions for TI Chapters under direct responsibility.
  • Facilitate the provision of TI-S key support services to TI Chapters under direct responsibility.
  • Develop new programmes for joint work in the region in consultation with TI Chapters, including writing proposals and preparing budgets
  • Support TI Chapters in their fundraising efforts.
  • Identify potential new TI Chapters and partners.
  • Pursue contacts with governments, international organisations, private sector and civil society to facilitate the work of TI Chapters.
  • Respond to enquiries from members of the public, international organisations, and others.
  • Represent TI at forums in or about the region as appropriate.
  • Take active part in media work relating both to TI’s work in the region and to TI’s global launches.

Knowledge, experience and skills:

  • University/post graduate degree in political science or other relevant field
  • Minimum 5 years relevant international work experience (in NGOs, international organisations, private sector, etc)
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of the region
  • Knowledge of, or considerable interest in, the work of TI and the field of anti-corruption
  • Proven management/coordination experience
  • Excellent project development and fundraising skills
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of any other European languages would be an advantage
  • Highly developed team work and intercultural communication skills
  • Willingness to travel
