A 10 month intern placement with Pre-Integration Test Group (PIT) which is responsible for testing the operations system kernel and networking components, i.e. the "heart", of the Solaris system, for the upcoming major Solaris releases. Since the testing process itself is highly automated, the group's primary task is to monitor, develop and augment that process and analyze the results. In addition the group develops and maintains tools for internal and external use.

As part of a well established, successful and tightly-knit team the candidate will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn more about UNIX System Administration on a wide range of SPARC and x86 hardware, including high-end systems, with in-depth, hands-on experience of Solaris Operating System
  • Become familiar with the test processes and analytical troubleshooting methodologies used by the group to achieve its testing goals.
  • Participate in installation and maintenance of a complex lab configuration
  • Improve and develop automated testing tools.
  • Use Shell scripting to solve real world problems.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants should be studying for a primary degree in Computing.
  • Knowledge of UNIX/LINUX Operating Environment
  • Excellent initiative/self-starter
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Good history of academic achievement
  • Must be a flexible team player
  • Must have a sense of humour!
  • UNIX/LINUX System Administration experience
  • Experience in a shell scripting language
  • Knowledge of Network Protocols
  • Experience of MySQL
  • C/C++/Java Programming Experience
