The GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies / Leibniz-Institut für Globale und Regionale Studien seeks to hire an

Academic Director
for GIGA's doctoral programme and the
Hamburg International Graduate School for the Study of Regional Powers (HIGS).

Applications are invited for a full-time position, with an initial contract of three years, starting 1 April 2012. The salary is commensurate with TV-AVH / TVöD EG 14/15.

The successful candidate will

  • direct GIGA's doctoral programme and contribute to the graduate school's academic programme,
  • steer the further development of the doctoral programme and graduate school, incl. the acquisition of third-party funds,
  • provide guidance to international doctoral students, and
  • conduct research on regional powers.

Desired qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree or Habilitation in political science/international relations; preferably regional specialisation on Africa, Asia, Latin America or the Middle East.
  • Excellent publication record; experience in the acquisition of third-party funds; relevant management and/or teaching experience.
