Duties and responsibilities:
• Leadership and management of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences in respect of teaching-learning, research and community service learning.
• Resource management (including talent management) to achieve the planned strategic and academic/scholarly goals of the Faculty and University.
• External liaison and partnership forming at provincial, national and international level, inter alia with universities, the corporate world, authorities, professional bodies, alumni, parents and interest groups.
• Active participation in institution building and promoting of institutional transformation.
• The Dean is a member of the Executive Committee of the Senate and reports to the Rector and Vice-Rector.

Inherent requirements:
• A Doctor’s degree in Economic and Management Sciences.
• Academic work experience at higher education level.
• A proven research record.
• Proven general leadership ability and management experience.
• Effective financial and faculty operational management skills.
• Sound human relations and the ability to mobilise people talent.
• Good interpersonal communication skills and the ability to function comfortably in the UFS’s multicultural work environment.

Recommendations:
• Experience in academic leadership.
• Experience of interaction with research councils.
• Liaison with universities internationally.
• Eligibility for appointment as Professor at the University of the Free State.
• Knowledge of an additional South African language.

Term of office:
Five years, with the possibility of reappointment for a further term.

Assumption of duties: 1 April 2012 or as agreed upon
