Environmental Economist HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation

HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation is one of the leading Swiss organisations for international cooperation. We work towards the improvement of living conditions of economically and socially disadvantaged people in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe. We also promote greater awareness of development issues in Switzerland.

We are currently looking for an Environmental Economist as Senior Advisor to strengthen our Working Area Environment and Climate Change.


MAIN TASKS
- Conceptual and analytical work on economic dimensions of adaptation to and mitigation of climate change
- Provision of advice related to economic aspects of climate change to own development projects and third clients
- Contribution to the national and international climate change dialogue based on livelihood realities in developing countries
- Development of conceptual clarity and analytical tools at the interface of development cooperation and topics such as Green Economy, bio-diversity conservation and Payment for Environmental Services

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree (MSc. or equivalent) in Environmental Economics or similar, optional: PhD related to the working area or post graduate degree in Development Studies
- At least 8 years of first hand experience in development cooperation including Project Cycle Management
- Ideally at least 3 years of longer-term assignments in the South/East and 3 years of short-term consultancy assignments for different mandators
- Track record and recognition as specialist in the field of climate change and development cooperation
- Familiarity with international conventions, negotiations and methods related to climate change
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills
- Fluency in English and French and/or German, any other language is an asset
