FORENSIC PATHOLOGY OFFICER Gr 1 (5 POSTS)

Salary: R97 941 per annum (Ref. MPDoH/Nov/11/36)



Requirements: • Senior Certificate plus appropriate medico-legal laboratory (mortuary) experience • Knowledge of and experience in medico-legal procedures, documentation, relevant acts and legislation, including Batho Pele Principles • Ability to work with corpses that are unidentified, mutilated, decomposed and sometimes have infectious viruses • Computer literacy plus familiarity with the basic Microsoft packages • Code B driver's licence plus willingness to travel extensively and undertake standby duties • Good interpersonal skills • Good verbal and written communication skills • Ability to work under pressure in order to meet tight deadlines.



Duties: • Assist with the recovery, storage and processing of corpses • Collect, store and process detailed information and other relevant exhibits, property and other possessions of the deceased from the crime scene • Place corpses in the identification room • Prepare corpses before and after autopsies • Render an efficient autopsy process according to the set standards and guidelines • Assist the doctor when performing autopsies (evisceration and reconstruction of dissected bodies), including X-rays to be taken • Efficiently handle and manage specimens during and after autopsies • Complete all relevant documentation and control all information optimally • Clean the dissection area after autopsies • Hand over corpses to funeral undertakers • Attend to court when necessary.
