Organizational Setting |
The IAEA Secretariat is made up of a team of 2300 multi-disciplinary professional and support staff from more than 100 countries. They come from scientific, technical, managerial, and professional disciplines. The Division of Information Technology provides support to the IAEA in the field of ICT (Information and Communication Technology), including information systems for technical programmes and management. It is responsible for planning, developing and implementing an ICT strategy, for setting and enforcing common ICT standards throughout the Secretariat and for managing central ICT services. The IAEA's ICT infrastructure comprises state-of-the art hardware and software platforms in a partially decentralized environment. The Division has implemented an IT service management model based on ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) and Prince2 (Projects in Controlled Environment) best practices. The Network and Telecommunications Unit in the Infrastructure Services Section is responsible for the operation of computer network, telecommunications and audio and video streaming. It is also responsible for the operation of the core and border firewalls. The IAEA's in-house network consists of 2,500 desktop and notebook computers and over 100 servers, Windows, Linux and Mainframe. The network is standardized on Cisco 6500 switches in the core layer and Cisco 4500/3750 switches in the distribution/access layer. The firewalls are standardized on Nokia hardware with Checkpoint. Hands-on support and configuration is primarily provided to the infrastructure at Headquarters and in Seibersdorf, but standardized hardware and software is also provided to the field office in Monaco. A Wide Area Network between Headquarters, Seibersdorf and Monaco is in place based on MPLS technology. |
Main purpose |
As a technical team leader reporting to the Head of the Network and Telecommunications Unit, the IT Network Engineer assists to define and operate the IAEA's standard network environment, including hardware, software, security and associated policies and standards. |
Role |
The IT Network Engineer is: a specialist, providing technical solutions and guidance; the focal point for coordinating and delivering secure network and telecommunications; a solution provider, troubleshooting and fixing technical issues on network and telecommunications equipment; and a project manager, defining, planning and implementing network and telecommunications projects. |
Partnerships |
The IT Network Engineer collaborates extensively with all MTIT staff and all other IT staff in the IAEA. The IT Network Engineer is a service provider to counterparts and technical specialists throughout the IAEA, ensuring compatibility and coordination, provides technical leadership to other members of the team, and establishes working relationships with external service providers/vendors to ensure the design and delivery of secure and resilient technologies, resources and capabilities related to the network and telecommunications environment. |

Remuneration |
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $56 018 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $36 860*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance.
