POLICY COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER
CARE is seeking an experienced Policy Communications Manager to be responsible for leading the development and implementation of communications plans that are designed to advance CARE’s policy and advocacy strategic initiatives. S/he will have a deep understanding of policy related to global poverty, bring professional relationships with key members of the media, think dimensionally about raising the profile of CARE and the issues we focus on, and maintain excellent, compelling writing skills.
Responsibilities:
•Develop and implement strategic communications plans
•Develop a deep understanding of CARE advocacy priorities and establish appropriate positioning and messaging strategies
•Oversee all public communications and placement strategies on policy and advocacy efforts including op-eds, press releases, media advisories, fact sheets, web content, action alerts, social media and other materials
•Maintain and build professional relationships with national and key regional news media to pitch and place stories to advance CARE’s policy agenda
•Work with the Directors of National Events and Strategic Initiatives to position CARE and support the media needs of policy related events, particularly as they include the President and CEO of CARE or other high level participants
Required:
•Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, communications, international studies or equivalent combination of education and work experience
•Five years experience in Advocacy/issues communications and strategy
•Demonstrated experience in plan implementation
•Excellent writing skills
•Strategy development
•Proficiency in Microsoft office suite
•Ability to manage change
•Good public speaking/presentation skills
•Ability to work independently, collaboratively and follow through
Desired:
•Masters in related field
•Political experience or relevant background
•Some exposure to global poverty or related field experience
•Experience leading issue based communication campaigns
