POLICY INTERNSHIP (PAID)

The Americas Society and Council of the Americas (AS/COA) seek a qualified individual for a paid spring internship in its policy program. The intern’s primary assignments will support ongoing research and activities to bolster public-private collaboration in addressing security concerns in El Salvador and the Northern Triangle region more broadly. Other responsibilities include: administering and writing for the website of the hemispheric policy magazine Americas Quarterly (AQ) (including daily news updates), liaising with AQ contributing writers, attending meetings, interacting with AS/COA members, providing logistical support for policy events, and assisting with administrative tasks as needed.

  • Assisting with all aspects of research on security issues in El Salvador and the Northern Triangle region of Central America, including assistance with background papers, coordinating in-country meetings, outreach to COA members with interests in El Salvador and security experts from the hemisphere; and coordinating travel
  • Providing logistical support for policy events and working groups, including researching, interacting with members and arranging meeting details
  • Tracking security developments as they pertain to our security work
  • Lending support to necessary administrative tasks
  • Assisting with all aspects of the production of Americas Quarterly including correspondence with authors, supporting the editorial team and writing short pieces forAmericas Quarterly.


Qualifications


The candidate is expected to be a creative self-starter that can balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Ideal candidates will possess the following attributes:

  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Excellent English and Spanish writing and editing skills
  • Proficiency in conducting research
  • Demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Quick learner who can provide analytical support to the policy program
  • Knowledge of El Salvador and/or Central America.
  • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and/or Raiser’s Edge a plus.


Minimum 20 hours/week commitment for a total of eight months. Three days/week preferred.
