University of Edinburgh

Applications are invited for a 2-year post in the Centre for Science at Extreme Conditions (CSEC) at The University of Edinburgh, available from 1st March 2012 to explore the electronic and magnetic properties of new materials and new electric-field induced phenomena at high pressures and low temperatures. The project is funded by an EPSRC grant held by Prof. J.P. Attfield, Prof. A.D. Huxley, and Dr. K.V. Kamenev.

You will have a strong background in electronic and magnetic materials and phenomena, with experience of high-pressure transport and magnetic measurements using diamond anvil or related cells. You should have a Ph.D. in a relevant area of physics, chemistry, materials science or an allied discipline. You should be enthusiastic and self-motivated, and willing to collaborate with a range of colleagues and train junior researchers in the techniques of high-pressure measurements.
