Summary of Job Purpose and Principal Duties

Fixed term for 5 years in the first instance (tenure-track position)

Research Aims

To develop an independent research programme in the clinical epidemiology of infection and its treatment. Expected outcomes are:

a: Undertake advanced training in clinical epidemiology and statistics.

b: Hold significant sized grants as PI by the end of 5 years with grant income at or on track to be at Medical School target levels for a PI

c: Be REF returnable at 3 or 4 by the end of 5 years

d: Be supervising PhD students by the end of 5 years

To expand the existing research programme on antibiotic stewardship in two main areas:

a: Improving the timeliness of effective treatment for patients with sepsis

b: Reducing collateral damage (infection with Clostridium difficile or multi drug resistant organisms)

To develop translational research with the Molecular Microbiology Group in Life Sciences.

Clinical Aims

On completion of specialist training the Senior Clinical Academic Fellowship will provide Consultant level input into the Regional Infection and Immunodeficiency Service, replacing Prof Davey in the areas of antibiotic stewardship, ambulatory IV therapy and quality improvement. The Service is Consultant led and the Senior Clinical Academic Fellow will be the lead Consultant for nine weeks each year.

The Senior Clinical Academic Fellow will also provide Consultant level input into Acute Medicine with on call duties in the Acute Medicine Unit, 1:18 for weekday evenings and 1:6 weekends. During weekends on call there will be one day on call for the AMU with review of patients on the Respiratory and ID wards on both weekend days
