Switzerland Child Rights Coordinator

Job offer:

The World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), the principal international coalition of non-governmental organizations fighting against torture, summary executions, forced disappearances and all other forms of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment is seeking to recruit a Child Rights Coordinator to lead its activities on the prevention of torture, cruel and inhuman and degrading treatment and the rights of the child.

A competitive salary will be provided based on the experience of the candidate oriented at the salary and benefits provided by the regulations and salary scale of the Administration of the Canton of Geneva.

The duty station is Geneva. The post is foreseen as a full time position, but could also be envisioned as 80%.

Responsibilities:

Under the responsibility of the management of the OMCT the child rights coordinator will contribute to the organizations advocacy on the protection of children from torture and ill-treatment, in particular by:

• Monitoring developments on the rights of children to be free from torture, ill-treatment and other serious human rights violations, and carrying out its advocacy efforts; • Coordinating and implementing child rights projects in Benin and Uruguay in partnership with its local member organizations. • Conducting advocacy for the protection of children deprived of liberty, notably toward UN human rights mechanisms at the UN Human Rights Council and UN treaty bodies; • Drafting of submission and position papers and case interventions; • Informing and mobilizing the OMCT network of partner organizations on child rights issues; • Actively contributing to fundraising for the program and assisting in managing the aspects of the project’s resources and budgets. Qualifications:

• Advanced university degree, preferably a post graduate degree in human rights or democratization, political science or international relations. • Minimum 4 years experience at the national and international levels, including with human rights organizations. • Demonstrated commitment to human rights and the rule of law. Competencies:

• Excellent knowledge on international human rights law, in particular on the rights of the child and the prohibition of torture, cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment. • Excellent and practical experience in human rights advocacy and project management. • Excellent oral and written communication skills in two of the following languages (English, French or Spanish) with working knowledge in the remaining language. • Ability to effectively manage conflicting demands, meeting deadlines and adjusting priorities and good organizational skills. • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work within a multi-cultural team and partners.
