Financial Controller - Shell Overseas Holdings Ltd

Due to our continued growth we are now looking for a Financial Controller to join us in our London office.

Responsibilities:
As someone with outstanding communication and technical skills,you’ll be interacting with senior stakeholders and advising on a variety of accounting issues as well as the wider implications of transactions including accounting for acquisitions,disposals and other restructuring transactions,exchange exposures,distributable reserves and tax matters. Working closely with tax,treasury,legal and other finance teams,you will ensure that any accounting related issues and their implications are appropriately addressed.

You’ll have overall responsibility for ensuring efficient and tightly controlled reporting processes are in place to support the reporting process for Shell Overseas Holdings Limited,Shell Gas BV and a number of smaller UK entities that have already had their reporting processes migrated to a shared service centre. Due to the location of counterparties around the Shell world,you will be required to make use of a number of virtual working tools.


Specific responsibilities will involve:

• Working closely with the Group tax,treasury and legal functions to ensure the company’s assets (>$20 billion of investments) are managed efficiently in line with Group policies
• Ensuring efficient and tightly controlled reporting processes are in place to support the quarterly Group reporting process and annual statutory reporting process which have been migrated to shared service centres
• Being the key finance contact with UK and Dutch Tax Planning in analysing the holdings and treasury cash forecasting tool used for budgeting purposes
• Providing accounting advice and guidance on restructuring transactions to project teams to ensure that transactions are appropriately reported and understood. Your advice and insight will be sought and relied upon by a number of key internal stakeholders. This will require not only a good understanding of the accounting issues,but the wider implications of transactions and structures
• Driving ongoing process improvement to ensure that we make best use of the systems available,allow maximum time to focus on critical areas where we add the most value and ensure that manual work is minimised

This is a challenging and varied role,giving you a unique overview of different areas of Shell’s businesses. You’ll be expected to use your creativity and interpersonal skills to develop the most effective solutions to accounting/reporting issues,and share knowledge and best practices with the rest of the team.

Requirements:
As a qualified accountant (ACA or equivalent), you’ll have trained with one of the larger public accountancy practices. As well as having excellent technical expertise you’ll have the ability to generate creative solutions for varied accounting issues and effectively communicate advice. With your overview of finance you’ll be able to take the lead in ensuring individual and group needs are met.

Confident and self-motivated, your excellent interpersonal and communication skills mean you’ll be able to liaise effectively with all levels of management and other businesses. You’ll enjoy contributing to and participating in the team and will be willing to get involved in a variety of projects. You’ll have proven experience in analysing complex issues and making business-impacting decisions in a timely fashion, managing your demanding workload effectively to ensure deadlines are met.
