Job Description
Reporting directly to the Head of IS Operations and Applications the post holder is the IS Technical Architect responsible for the design and support of Server and Desktop services across DSG. Duties of the post holder include:

- Responsible for the development of DSG Technical Strategy for Server and Desktop deployment. Provides guidance and leadership on all IT technical issues.
- Responsible for project management, delivery and implementation of software, firmware and hardware solutions whilst ensuring technical and network security and compliance to MOD IT security standards.
-Ensure Technical Operations projects are delivered on time, within budget and that resources are allocated and managed.
-Management of the Stirling IS Service Department 2nd and 3rd Line Technical support teams for Incident and Change Management ensuring resources are allocated, work loads prioritised and adherence to IS configuration management.
-Ensure services are delivered in accordance with agreed service levels.
-Responsible for Problem Management root cause analysis, quick fixes and implementation of permanent solutions. Identification of trends and technical testing for availability, capacity and demand management.
-Ensure Server and Desktop Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity strategy is developed, implemented, maintained and tested.
-Develop and maintain IS processes relevant to Technical Operations and ensure compliance.
-Research technological changes in the industry and make recommendations for DSG future server and infrastructure and cost benefit analysis of products.
-Work with other IS Functional Teams to ensure IS Services are provided in accordance with the agreed SLA.
-Member of IS Change Advisory Board and IS Steering Group.
-The post holder will be required to work outside normal working and travel to other DSG sites.

Essential:
Proven experience of working in an ICT environment providing technical desktop and server solutions
In depth knowledge of Microsoft Server and Desktop technologies ESX, VSphere 5 and Microsoft Hyper V Server 2008 R2 including planning , simulation and replacement and Hyper V load balancing across multi sites
In depth knowledge of virtual technologies including VME, RDS and Terminal Services and thin and zero client loads across differing server infrastructure
In depth knowledge of Microsoft Unified Communications within a restricted environment including, WP7, Exchange 2010 and Lync 2010. Microsoft 2008 R2 domain planning and migration from Virtual 2003 domain including Schema extensions for Exchange 2010 and Lync 2010
Proven project management of large and small IT technical projects
ITIL Foundation Certificate V3
