Global Category Manager - Glass (Emerging Markets)

Diageo’s Procurement structure is a mixture of above-market resources focused on developed world class category strategies and in-market Procurement resources focused on excellence in execution of category strategies and supplier performance management.
This role will be a part of the above market team called category excellence team.
The role is primarily to consist in the development and delivery of Sourcing Strategies and outcomes for Glass/PET emerging markets that optimise value delivery to Diageo
The scope of the role includes either Glass and PET containers strategy for emerging markets
This role will have responsibility for the development and delivery of Strategy and sourcing solutions
The GCM (Global Category Manager) will need to be able to manage a diverse set of key stakeholder relationships across multiple geographies, both internal to Diageo (Procurement, Technical, Marketing, etc) and with external suppliers.
The GCM must be analytically very strong, have a strong procurement background and have preferably some knowledge about cultural and business contexts within the emerging markets.
The GCM will need to be pro-active in identifying suitable areas and information to mine and be comfortable accessing, gathering and analysing (via range of commonly used database and spread sheet software) a wide range of market and input cost data to drive out value generating hypothesis and opportunities (e.g. Financial / Management accounts, Input costs, currency movements, macroeconomic measures, Tariffs, Import duties, Cost modelling etc).
The GCM must be comfortable undertaking International travel and meeting / working effectively with stakeholders in different regions, where required, to drive out key insights on stakeholder needs and value generating opportunities & barriers.
Purpose of Role
The role will support the GCD and Category Excellence Global Packaging portfolio in helping deliver Diageo’s procurement imperatives, via Strategies and sourcing solutions that :-
Optimise Value returned to business and Supply centres
Meet the business needs of each individual market and deliver the required levels of performance on Quality and Service
Minimise Supply Risk
Access appropriate capability on Innovation and Technology
Top 3-5 accountabilities
Support GCD in the development of Global Category Strategies and Sourcing solutions via a proactive and flexible approach focused on excellent analytical insights that drive out possibilities and Value adding opportunities for the business.
Lead the development and maintenance of comprehensive intelligence and information gathering network and use appropriate analysis to have Primary and Secondary dashboard of key Criteria that highlight key changes and associated opportunities & risks.
Proactively build a network of Regional and local procurement and Technical contacts with strong relationships through which key information, insights, opportunities and risks can be channelled back and forth across regions to drive value.
Builds and develops a detailed understanding of the current incumbent supply base and wider global supply market for the chosen category. Analyse market trends, gain insight on what our competition are doing, understanding the effect of change in the market dynamics – supplier consolidation. Understand supplier capabilities and key cost drivers to be able to quickly identify opportunities as and when they arise.
Qualifications and experience required
University Degree in Financial or equivalent
Purchasing and/or Business qualification desirable (CIPS/MBA)
Graduate calibre with good commercial acumen.
7-10 years of procurement within a forward thinking, fast paced and value-adding environment.
Analytical, numerate, enthusiastic, tenacious and a team player
Some experience in direct procurement ( ideally packaging) or in the packaging industry
Ideally some experience in working with emerging regions and in a different type of industry
