ADB - Senior Social Development Specialist (Social Protection)

ADB seeks qualified professionals to fill this vacancy in its Regional and Sustainable Development Department (RSDD), Poverty Reduction, Gender, and Social Development Division (RSGS):
Job Purpose:
Promote, coordinate and facilitate ADB’s Social Protection Strategy and plans developed to implement the strategy. Analyze and report on social protection issues in Asia and the Pacific, including developments related to social assistance, social insurance, and labor market measures. Support operations departments and developing member countries in designing social protection projects and project components. Serve as departmental focal point ADB for work on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and successor human/social development frameworks. Manage engagement with selected partners on social protection, poverty reduction, and inclusive growth. Work within general policies, principles and goals, working directly with clients.
Immediate Reporting Relationships:
The position reports to: Director, RSGS
The following staff positions report to the Social Development Specialist: National Staff and Administrative Staff
Relevant Experience and Other Requirements: Specific criteria include
- Suitability to undertake the responsibilities mentioned above at the required level
- At least 10 years of relevant professional work experience in developing countries, with good knowledge of the Asia and Pacific Region.
- Experience working in the operations departments of multilateral development institutions is desirable
- Possesses strong analytical skills relevant to country analytical work and poverty assessments, as well as project economic and poverty assessments
- Ability to assess poverty-related aspects of projects from a broad perspective, combining both quantitative and qualitative analysis
- Ability to develop high quality knowledge products relevant to strategy development and project design, implementation, and evaluation
- Strong communication skills, at ease with communicating on strategic and policy issues with ADB Management and staff
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- International experience working in development in several countries.
Education Requirements:
Master’s degree, or equivalent, in Economics, Labor Studies, International/Social Development, Public Policy, Sociology or related fields. University degree in Economics, Labor Studies, International/Social Development, Public Policy, Sociology or related fields, combined with specialized experience in similar organization/s, may be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.
