Assistant to the UK Permanent Representative to NATO British Embassy

A full time fixed term position as Assistant to the UK Permanent Representative (PermRep) to NATO will become available in April at the UK Joint Delegation in Brussels. The main responsibilities are to assist the UK Permanent Representative to NATO as required in all aspects of her role of representing the UK in NATO and leading the UK Joint Delegation, to manage her office, and to oversee the management of her diary and official duties.

  • Coordinate the weekly business of the North Atlantic Council and other ambassadorial level meetings, through attendance at the Coordinating Committee and liaison with the Council Secretariat;
  • Commission briefing from colleagues within the Delegation for the Perm Rep’s meetings;
  • Manage the flow of information (emails and correspondence) into and out of the PermRep’s office and deal with business on behalf of the Perm Rep;
  • Support the PermRep at meetings and provide reporting and minute’s as required;
  • Monitor the Perm Rep’s personal official budgets;
  • Provide line management and guidance to the Diary Secretary, who works jointly to the PermRep and Military Representative (MILREP);
  • Oversee the Perm Rep’s long term programme;
  • Provide ad hoc secretarial support as required.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrate initiative, problem solving and judgement;
  • Be able to manage and prioritise workloads to deliver results;
  • Have excellent English oral and written communication and influencing skills;
  • Strong IT skills;
  • Enjoy working in a team;
  • Have an open and flexible approach;
  • Be prepared to work late but only on a specific occasional basis such as during Defence or Foreign Ministerial meetings (approx 5 times a year);
  • Administrative and organisational skills with relevant experience;
  • Have an understanding of French (desirable not essential).

This position will be subject to satisfactory completion of UK security checks, and be filled on a fixed term contract.

Gross Monthly Salary: € 2736.57
