International Accountability Coordinator (Conflict Management)

£41,124 per annum
London
1 year fixed-term maternity cover

For fifty years, we’ve been campaigning for human rights wherever justice, freedom and truth are denied. And in doing so, we’ve changed thousands of lives for the better. The International Mobilisation Programme (IMP) is key to our efforts – helping us to engage with more supporters than ever before. Now we’re looking for an exceptional coordinator to streamline our operations on a global scale.

About the role

This key role is about providing strategic support to the leaders of Amnesty International (AI) entities around the globe – working in collaboration with a variety of teams to maintain unity and achieve our collective mission. With AI entities in 70 countries across the world, you’ll enjoy huge scope as you coordinate the development of a strategic framework for the management and prevention of organisational conflict within a range of them. Whether it’s a difference of opinion between volunteers and professional staff, or non-compliance with global standards, we’ll look to you to offer advice, coaching and an influential hand to get everyone pulling in the same direction. Day to day that means tackling both long term projects and a variety of daily tasks – from reviewing the ongoing performance of the various entities and putting improvement measures in place where necessary, to prepare information and briefings sent to the Secretary General and International Board. And in every instance, you’ll take a hands-on approach to making a real impact.

About you

Coming from a similar role with another INGO, you’ll have proven experience in conflict resolution and management in a multinational and organisational development setting. Excellent communication skills are key when negotiating, influencing and educating a variety of entities. A professional command of English and fluency in French, Spanish or Arabic will be a great asset. In dealing with sensitive subjects in diverse environments, it’s important to remain diplomatic an flexible but unmoving in your efforts to ensuring high standards. Analytically minded with strong political judgement, you’ll determine whether standards are being maintained, assess how policies affect entities differently and decide on an alternate course of action when necessary. Just as important as your strategic abilities, however, are the personal traits you bring to the role. Optimistic, enthusiastic and results driven, you’ll work to enhance Amnesty’s credibility and stability at all times – getting to grips with the workings of a complex INGO as you drive our unified efforts on a global scale.

About us

Our aim is simple: an end to human rights abuses. Independent, international and influential, we campaign for justice, freedom and truth wherever they’re denied. Already our network of over three million members and supporters is making a difference in 150 countries. And whether we’re applying pressure through powerful research or direct lobbying, mass demonstrations or online campaigning, we’re all inspired by hope for a better world. One where human rights are respected and protected by everyone, everywhere.
