CARE - DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT, FOUNDATIONS
CARE is seeking an experienced Director of Development/Deputy (DOD), to be a member of the Foundations team - supporting the development of and maintaining CARE’s relationships with a portfolio of professional foundations, and serving as primary relationship manager for a select number of donors and prospects. The DOD will take the lead, in partnership with senior Program and Country Office staff, in identifying new funding opportunities and developing concepts and proposals for foundation donors. The focus areas for fundraising for the Foundations team are around Gender and Women’s Empowerment, Food and Livelihoods Justice, Sexual, Reproductive and Maternal Health, and Humanitarian Assistance. The DOD’s portfolio will be determined based on their area technical expertise and practical field experience. S/he will also work with a Grants Management team who are responsible for regular monitoring of implementation and spending, as well as reporting to donors, to ensure proper stewardship of the existing portfolio of active grants. These efforts will contribute directly to the annual Foundations Unit target. Periodically, the DOD will perform functions to support the team as required, especially the team Director.

Required:
Undergraduate degree
3-5 years of experience in any combination of foundation fundraising, project design/management; proposal writing; program advisory or field work, preferably in Water and Sanitation and Emergency Response
Demonstrated success in outbound, self-initiated prospecting and qualifying
Experience successfully reporting in a matrix environment
Capacity to facilitate internal decisions across multiple stakeholders as required to produce content for proposals
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Stong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Extensive experience in fundraising, foundation relations, cultivating and stewardship of donors
Experience working as part of a team
Evidence of strong analytic skills
Computer literacy, including facility with Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications
Project design/proposal writing for foundations or comparable donors
Advanced editing skills
Desired:
Advanced degree in a relevant field of study, including both broader (Development Studies, Pubilic and International Affairs, etc.) or more specialized (Public Health, Agriculture, Environmental Studies, etc.) degree programs
5-7 years or more of experience in some combination of fundraising, writing/project design and field work
