Consultant Opportunity in the Diversity Unit

We are looking for a call-down contract consultant to work with the British Council's Diversity Unit in Spring Gardens, South West London.

Role profile and context
The British Council's Diversity Unit is seeking a consultant on a flexible, call-down arrangement, to provide support with IT and Communications Support for a period of 1 year:

Background
The Diversity Unit is a small team with 2 full-time staff based in the UK. It sets and drives the strategic direction of the British Council's equality and diversity work supported by a global network of colleagues and key senior leaders and managers. The work is varied and involves numerous internal and external relationships and activities, some ongoing and some time bound. The Unit requires flexible support to fulfil the projects identified above over a period of a year.

Context for the role
The role is likely to suit someone interested in a highly flexible arrangement premised on the following:
• developing and maintaining an appropriate internal and external online presence that is sustainable, realistic and engaging
• developing efficient administrative systems to support effective internal and external communications.

The emphasis of the consultancy support is on efficiency and effectiveness in order to enable the Diversity Unit to work smarter and make more effective use of technology than it is currently doing.

There will be a need to work from the British Council office in London on a number of occasions to be decided on the basis of a fortnightly review. Therefore the role will not be suitable for anyone requiring a more standardised and predictable arrangement.

The Unit's work ethos is strong and positive, focussed and yet flexible, and as would be expected, there is a strong commitment to and belief in the importance and added value of equality and diversity.

We seek applications from those genuinely interested in the role and the positive, flexible contribution they consider they can make for a proposed start date in September 2012.

Role requirements

• Proven support skills and a solution-oriented, constructive approach
• Creative and dynamic approach to IT including familiarity with standard packages and new media
• Understanding of electronic administrative systems to facilitate smart working
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work in a small team with varied internal and external relationships
• Flexibility and reliability
• Proven interest in the field of equality and diversity and intercultural working

Remuneration is the rate of £18.00 per hour.

Closing date 31st May, 2012.

Please send expressions of interest to jane.franklin@britishcouncil.org addressing each of the role requirements using the application form below.

Please note, we are unfortunately unable to answer individual queries prior to the closing date and shortlisting for resource reasons. For this reason we have provided full background information. We are also unable to provide feedback to those who are not shortlisted.
