About this job opportunity
This Associate position is vacant in the political communications unit of ECF, called Energy Strategy Center (ESC). The position is primarily in support of the ESC Policy Manager but includes taking on direct responsibilities, initiatives and interacting with a wide range of people in and outside the organization. We are offering a position in a dynamic environment with active participation in the climate and energy debate in Europe and are looking for enthusiastic candidates that take initiative and want to work in team with more than 5 years of relevant working experience.
Reports to: ESC Policy Manager
Main tasks and responsibilities
This is a non-exhaustive list and assignments will vary:
  • Supporting the ESC policy manager in his general activities. This ranges from project management to implementing political and media strategies with the ECF and its grantees;
  • Drafting, editing and finalizing documents and presentations;
  • Research work; including reading and summarizing reports (economic and technical) on energy and power systems;
  • Attending events and seminars on energy policy in and around the EU institutions;
  • Monitoring the news agenda; daily compilation of media articles for the organisation;
  • General administrative support, including scheduling, travel logistics, reviewing mail.
Key competencies and characteristics
The ideal candidate will have the following practical qualifications and attributes:
  • University or Higher Education degree
  • Demonstrated interest in the mission and values of the ECF;
  • 5 years of relevant work experience in the fields of energy policy, EU affairs and/or media work;
  • Enthusiasm in following and analyzing the policy and media debate on clean energy and decarbonisation;
  • Good understanding of the EU policy-making processes;
  • Fast-learning self-starter comfortable in a fast-paced international environment with eagerness to learn;
  • Ability to work both in a team and independently and to prioritize and juggle diverse tasks;
  • Strong administrative and computer skills (PowerPoint, Microsoft, Excel), experience with Mac is an asset.
  • Superior English written and verbal communication skills; other languages are an asset (especially Polish or other Eastern European languages)
  • Candidates must be in possession of valid work permit for Belgium, if applicable.
