Policy Officer INTA - International Trademark Association


The International Trademark Association (www.inta.org) is an international not-for-profit association with over 5600 members dedicated to the support and advancement of trademarks and related intellectual property as elements of fair and effective national and international commerce. INTA is headquartered in New York City and has regional Representation Offices in Shanghai, Brussels and Washington, DC, as well as Representatives in Geneva and Mumbai.
The Position
INTA is seeking to reinforce its Europe Representative Office with a Policy Officer. The Candidate will assist the Europe Representative and New York-based colleagues in coordinating the Association’s advocacy efforts in Europe with particular emphasis on relations with the European Parliament and Council and the follow-up of substantive policy issues of relevance to the Association. Activities could also include assistance in the deployment in Europe of INTA’s public awareness campaign in the global fight against counterfeiting.
Position Requirements
  • Completed law studies at university-level or professional legal qualification or equivalent;
  • Experience in intellectual property – professional or otherwise – desirable;
  • Practical knowledge of the functioning of the European Institutions and their decision-making processes;
  • Three to five years related experience a plus;
  • Fluency in English with excellent communication and drafting skills; excellent language skills in other European languages desirable;
  • Ability to work proactively and independently, as part of the small dynamic Brussels team, with New York based staff liaisons and INTA’s international volunteers (as required);
  • Advanced IT user skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook);
  • Strong interpersonal skills, cultural awareness and flexibility;
  • Ability to research, evaluate, negotiate, establish and maintain relationships with officials and relevant stake-holders;
  • Some travel required - primarily within Europe and possibly to the United States.
The contract proposed is an open-ended contract. Salary commensurate with experience plus hospitalisation insurance.
