Job description
IBM Systems and Technology Group (STG) is responsible for IBM’s hardware. IBM Systems are being designed around the core principles of collaboration, openness and virtualisation; essential ingredients of the kind of integrated infrastructure that can move businesses to the next generation of computing — collaborative processing. Collaborative processing is what happens when an organisation transcends its standard organisational boundaries, changing the way people interact with each other and with the IT environment that supports them. The Systems and Technology Group (STG) portfolio includes Mainframe, UNIX and 'x86 Servers, Storage, Networking, System Software and Integrated solutions.

Client Technical Architects (CTA) in STG, also known as a Systems Architect (SA), addresses customer’s business and IT challenges by architecting comprehensive IT infrastructure solutions that exploit the capabilities of the STG portfolio. CTAs have strong technical skills complemented by good relationship skills and are viewed as consultants to the customer. They are valued because of their ability to analyze requirements, evaluate alternatives and design a technology solution exploiting IBM and other technologies in innovative ways to deliver value to clients. The successful applicants will be part of a team of Architects who focus on various client sets and solution areas, including Cloud and Analytics. The role is a client facing pre-sales technical role. Increasingly there is a need for STG CTAs to engage with clients in a consultative manner to develop/progress opportunities. Examples of such activities include: leading/facilitating workshops, developing PoVs, engaging in PoCs and developing business cases and provocative proposals.

Responsibilities include:
Solution Design - analyze a customer's business and IT challenges and design a comprehensive solution that integrates smoothly into the customer's IT environment.
Technology Advisor - Lead IBM team in promoting the case for technology, and guide in the selection of the appropriate platform/product to meet a given need, and get buy-in from the enterprise's management and IT communities. The goal is to create new opportunities and advance existing ones.
Method driven - lead customers and the IBM team in selecting, employing, and influencing the use of appropriate methodologies and design tools to achieve the desired business and technical results.
Facilitator - be a leader in fostering communication among customer, partner, and IBM teams, especially between the various brands of IBM Systems.
Project Advisor - lead the IBM team in : Ensuring that the business vision has been satisfied through the design, adapting to inevitable design compromises and modified nonfunctional requirements, Suggesting solutions to customer skill gaps, Correcting architectural errors, Observing the deployed system to harvest lessons for future projects
