Job Summary

Under the general guidance of the Systems Administration Officer, the Information Technology (IT) Assistant is responsible for providing first-level technical support to end users as well as installing, configuring and maintaining IT systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
a)    Provide first-level IT support to end users.
b)    Ensure prompt and adequate resolution of IT issues.
c)    Install, configure and maintain desktop computer systems, laptops, printers, UPS and other computer equipment.
d)    Install, configure, maintain and update operating systems and application software.
e)    Troubleshoot IT systems and liaise with vendors for repair and maintenance.
f)    Maintain and troubleshoot network cabling and internet connections.
g)    Maintain telephone and PBX systems in coordination with service providers.
h)    Ensure IT systems operate optimally and conform to Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
i)    Provide appropriate IT services to visiting consultants and delegates.
j)    Provide basic IT services orientation to new users.
k)    Any other duties as may be assigned.
Education and Training

•    A diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science,  Electrical/ Electronic Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized academic institution.
•    Microsoft, Cisco and other relevant training and certifications would be an added advantage.

Experience

At least three (3) years practical working experience in an information technology field.

Skills and Abilities

•    Proactive, self-driven and problem-solving orientation.
•    Good communication skills and ability to explain technical issues to end users.
•    Ability to troubleshoot IT problems and provide solutions.
•    Knowledge of LAN, WAN and WiFi protocols.
•    Knowledge of Internet access technologies and ability to diagnose connectivity issues.
•    Proficiency in operating systems and office applications.
•    Ability to keep abreast of emerging trends and technologies.
Language Requirements

Fluency in English. Working knowledge of the French Language would be an added advantage.

Eligibility

The position is open to nationals of IGAD member states only.
