Assistant Professor, Plant Cell Biology


Department of Biology

The Department of Biology, University of Saskatchewan, is seeking to fill a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Plant Cell Biology commencing July 1, 2013. Preference will be given to a candidate who uses advanced imaging and microscopy techniques to address fundamental questions in plant cell biology. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous, independent, externally-funded research program. The department is dedicated to an interactive and experience-based approach to the education of its students. The candidate will participate in both the undergraduate and graduate teaching programs, with specific responsibility in cell biology. Applicants must have a Ph.D. and relevant post-doctoral experience with an established record of research excellence.
The Department of Biology is a diverse department of 23 faculty and over 80 graduate students. The department has research strengths in cell and molecular biology, ecology, and environmental sciences. This position is therefore viewed as an integral link in our strategic diversity. The Department of Biology has a broad suite of imaging tools, including: confocal, apotome, and wide-field deconvolution microscopes, in addition to scanning and transmission electron microscopes. As part of the UofS community there is also access to instrumentation in the Saskatchewan Structural Science Centre and at other campus facilities. Our faculty benefit from strong interdisciplinary research in partnerships with the College of Agriculture and Bioresources, the College of Medicine, NRC - Saskatoon, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and the Canadian Light Source Synchrotron.
The College of Arts & Science offers a dynamic combination of programs in the humanities and fine arts, the social sciences and the sciences.
