Canada Research Chair, (NSERC Tier II)

Nutritional Genomics
Food and Bioproduct Sciences
The Opportunity
The University of Saskatchewan invites applications from scholars with a strong research profile for an NSERC Tier II Canada Research Chair (CRC) in the field of Nutritional Genomics.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a PhD (obtained within the last ten years), acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to lead in their field, and have experience in developing interdisciplinary research partnerships. Successful candidates are expected to mount an independent, externally funded research program and to participate in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level.
The Department of Food and Bioproduct Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Bioresources invites applications from individuals qualified to develop an active research program in nutritional genomics. Appropriate areas of investigation would include: molecular mechanisms of the effects of nutraceuticals and functional foods on human health; functional analysis of bioactive compounds and natural products at the genomic level; and applications of functional genomics in improving the nutritional value of food. The successful candidate will complement existing departmental expertise in functional and molecular genomics and have opportunities for collaboration within and beyond the department. Various campus resources are available including computational biology and bioinformatics and the Canadian Light Source (Canada’s national synchrotron facility). Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to integrate their research into related areas such as genetics, biochemistry, and molecular biology. Work in this area should lead to the development of new foods for optimum health and longevity and new opportunities for Canada’s agri-food sector.
The successful candidate will be appointed to a tenured or tenure-track position at the assistant or associate professor level, commensurate with qualifications, and will be nominated for a NSERC Tier II Canada Research Chair. The CRC is awarded following rigorous evaluation by the CRC Secretariat, Ottawa for a five-year term renewable once (see: www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca).
