Department

BBC Look North serves the diverse area of East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. From our Breakfast bulletins, through lunch, teatime and late evening news programmes and weekend news, we broadcast to a population of around 2 million people. We pride ourselves on innovative ways of working in a multi-platform environment, sharing content across radio and the web and using new technology to gather news for TV, radio and online.

The department is part of the East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire region and our staff work closely with colleagues on weekly programmes, including Inside Out and the Politics Show. Our team works closely with BBC Network News, BBC News Online and the BBC Local Radio stations in the region.

Role

Most of the country’s crops are grown here, the area is bidding to become the renewable energy capital of the country and our coastline is disappearing into the sea. We’ll expect you to be on top of the issues behind these stories in addition to setting the agenda as Rural Affairs and Environment Correspondent. You’ll be expected to serve our daily television, Local Radio and Interactive outputs and you will work on other areas of output as required. As well as reporting you’ll be expected to edit your own material and have experience of using your own camera or be willing to learn.

Requirements

We’re looking for an experienced journalist with strong editorial judgement and writing skills. You’ll possess first class news judgement, excellent broadcasting skills and have experience of live reporting. You’ll need to be able to work co-operatively as part of a team and you must have an understanding of the BBC’s Producer Guidelines and an awareness of legal considerations applying to all types of output. You must be willing to embrace new technology and be able to work flexibly. In addition, you will need to understand our audiences and the diverse make up of our transmission area.

For further details about the role, please contact Caroline Lebeau, Assistant News Editor on 01482 314501.
SHOWREEL REQUEST:
When completing the application form you will be prompted to submit a showreel with no more than ten minutes of material. It should include examples of your journalism and live reporting work. This should be submitted by Midday on Monday 28th January, in DVD format to Mark Hayman, TV Editor, BBC Look North, Queen's Court, Queen's Gardens, Hull HU1 3RH.

Please note, we are unable to return DVDs once submitted and any application without a supporting demo will not be considered for shortlisting.
