Job Summary

The Market Development Facility (MDF) invests in innovative businesses to stimulate economic growth in a number of countries across the Asia Pacific region.
 
To ensure the integration of environmental considerations into all Facility activities, MDF is seeking an experienced Environmental Consultant to help establish an environmental management system for the Facility’s operations in Fiji.

The assignment will begin in February or March 2013 for a duration of 18 days.
 
The deadline for submission of Expressions of Interest, addressing the criteria stated in the TOR and the provision of CVs is 11 February 2013.

Key Responsibilities

The Environmental Consultant will:
  • Develop Environmental Guidelines for the Facility based on both analysis of Australian and Fijian guidelines; separate review and analysis will be conducted on each to develop the broader Facility guidelines, with country-specific annex;
  • Complete an environmental scan to identify sensitive ecosystems and/or environmental impacts in those areas where MDF works in Fiji;
  • Complete an environmental checklist for MDF staff to use to identify the environmental risks and potential positive outcomes of each of the Facility’s activities;
  • Provide training to MDF staff in Fiji on the use of the environmental guidelines and checklist. ​

Other Requirements

  • Strong relevant experience in the development of environmental guidelines for development programs, preferably those using the M4P methodology.
  • Degree in environmental law or environmental science, or equivalent and with significant practical field experience. Post Graduate degree preferred.
  • An understanding of AusAID's Environmental Management Guidelines and Australia's environmental laws and requirements relevant to the implementation of AusAID funded program.
  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.
  • Working experience in the Pacific and/or South East Asia (preferred).  ​
