GROWTH UNIT ASSISTANT Amnesty International Secretariat


JOB PURPOSE: Provide administrative and communications support to the Growth Unit in order to ensure that the unit is able to deliver on its mission effectively and with the
collaboration of other parts of the movement. Coordinate with the International Mobilization
Programme Assistant to ensure administrative support for the programme.
PROGRAMME PURPOSE: IMP’s mission is to build and grow the Amnesty International movement in order to mobilize people to take action on human rights priorities of the movement.
UNIT PURPOSE: The Growth Unit is a unit of IMP which focuses on innovation and supporting, coordinating and building effective, sustainable and locally relevant presence of
AI’s movement in areas of the global south where there is no AI section or structure, based on the principles of growth for impact through participation.
AIIS PURPOSE: The International Secretariat, which operates from a number of sites around the world, gathers and communicates accurate and action-oriented human rights information globally. We campaign for meaningful human rights change; enable effective human rights activism and work to persuade governments and other actors to uphold universal human rights standards. We provide strategic leadership, support and advice to the Amnesty International movement globally, fostering Amnesty International’s contribution, presence and public accountability throughout the world.

Reporting to: Head of Growth Unit/Deputy Programme Director

Assistants in IS programs, partner organisations and others involved in AI in countries where there is no Amnesty International entity.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinating unit communication in order to ensure an effective flow of communication with external stakeholders, within the Unit between the IMP Units and other programmes
  • To ensure that all queries in relation to activism and mobilisation in countries where AI does not have an entity are managed effectively within prescribed timelines, to develop and manage the contacts database.
  • To support the team to ensure that reporting requirements to external stakeholders are fulfilled to a high standard by coordinating the deadlines and approvals processes.
  • Organize travel and other practical arrangements for the team and the visitors to the team

  • Finance and Accounting Programme in a timely manner. Assist the Unit Manager with compiling quarterly budget reporting and planning in coordination with Regional Growth
  • Coordinators.
  • Cover for the absences of the International Mobilization Programme and Unit Assistants to ensure coverage of the program’s administrative matters and maintain effective management of the team and the achievement of the IMP objectives
  • Other responsibilities as assigned according to the grade and nature of the post to maintain a high level of administrative support to the unit.
