The News Programmes Department of the BBC News Group is responsible for daily and weekly news and current affairs programmes on television, on radio and on demand across the BBC’s national and international services.

Role
The News Programmes department is a critical part of the overall BBC News operation and the new Head must be able to ensure his or her teams continue to collaborate effectively across News and beyond to ensure that audiences get the best value from the original journalism produced by the Department. The Head of the News Programmes Department must deliver the BBC’s public purposes and have extensive editorial experience especially in managing controversial and challenging original journalism. He or she must have a deep understanding of the needs of its different audiences and an ability to build relationships with Controllers and Commissioners across all services.
