Barclaycard are currently recruiting for four Legal Counsels to join our teams in Northampton and Cardiff.  These are new roles to meet growing demands within our business.

 

Key responsibilities include:

• Acting as an internal service provider, to identify legal risk issues arising from commercial contracts to be entered into by Barclaycard to support expansion strategies as appropriate. 
• To provide expert legal advice and assist the business and support areas (including the Sourcing and Risk teams) involved in these contracts so that these legal risks are adequately addressed. 
• To provide specialist legal advice where such responsibility is undertaken, for example  to provide competition law advice to the business, and/or to be the central point of contact and provide advice on areas of new regulation or legislation (for example Disability Discrimination Act, CCA, MCOB  and ICOB) to the Barclaycard cluster.
• To work with other members of the Barclaycard Legal Team as required.
• To manage external legal resources.
• To help to develop an effective Legal Function across Barclays through active involvement in Global Practice Groups and Steering Committees.

Essential 

Contract & Commercial law

Experience of broad range of commercial transactions, e.g. alliances, co-branding agreements, marketing arrangements, outsourcing and insourcing

Law and legal issues arising from non disclosure agreements 

Law, legal issues and contracts relating to the procurement of products and services (non-technology).

Strong academic background

 

Preferred

Qualified UK solicitor (or equivalent) likely to have circa 5 years + pqe gained from a known private practice or major institution

Experience of regulatory work (Consumer Credit, ICOB and MCOB)

Understanding, knowledge and experience of Barclays,  secured lending and point of sale finance

Knowledge of financial services related to secured loans. Point of sale finance and procurement (e.g. market data contracts)

Law and legal issues relating to procurement of e-commerce services and services and products in support of e-business

General knowledge of EU regulatory framework

Competition Law

Previous in-house experience in financial sector
