Department

The Technology, Distribution & Archive Division delivers the technology and services that enable the BBC to deliver great content to our audiences all year round.

Major Projects Infrastructure (MPI) is responsible for the gathering, procurement, project delivery and stakeholder management capability to programme making and technology.

Role

In this role you will be the lead on the strategic delivery of the BBC's technology goals, with key accountabilities, including ensuring all suppliers are managed effectively, and maintaining the reputation of MPI within the BBC and the wider industry.
You will have both managerial and operational ownership of technology delivery, with a keen eye on the meeting of core project milestones, on time and on budget. There will be a large degree of cross-functional working to create BBC-wide efficiencies, which you will both drive proactively and respond to as requested by other project parties within the BBC.
A core responsibility is to lead on the 'W12' project, ensuring that all elements of the project as stated at its initiation are delivered and advising on/implementing any additional changes as perceived as now being required to deliver the desired output.
A critical aspect of this role is to lead communications, updates and stakeholder engagement, ensuring all relevant parties are kept informed of events and issues/risks and subsequent actions. Therefore a confident, outgoing personality to be able to deliver project messages at a senior level is essential.

Requirements

In this multi-stakeholder, complex environment, strong project management is critical to ensure the success of this role. A Prince 2 qualification and/or knowledge of other project management tools would demonstrate that you possess that core skill. However, demonstrable experience of managing large-scale projects would also be required to illustrate your abilities in this area.
Motivation of teams to deliver to your required standard will be essential in order to help deliver the core projects. Examples of the ability to manage delivery teams will be sought.
You will bring substantial relevant experience, as a technical lead on major projects. The majority of such experience should have been obtained within a technology implementation environment or similar, including Health & Safety, Planning, Procurement, financial, reporting, and delivery elements.  This will be supported by significant demonstrable knowledge and experience in enterprise technology and broadcast technology.
An informed knowledge of, and experience in, information security IT, ‘On Air’ technologies, delivery technology, production and acquisition technology is a must.
