Development and Outreach Department

Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking an Associate to provide administrative and clerical assistance to the Development and Outreach Department in the Geneva Office.  This position reports to the Director of Development in Geneva. 
Responsibilities:
1. Assisting with the organization and coordination of logistics for special events in Geneva and in the region, such as Committee meetings, outreach events, researcher briefings, fundraising events and annual dinners;
2. Managing the administration of major gifts prospects and conducting prospect research;
3. Responding to requests for information and corresponding with Geneva Committee members and constituents, including the creation of mailings;
4. Providing support including scheduling internal and external meetings, creating agendas, preparing background materials, drafting minutes and conducting follow-up meetings;
5. Overseeing preparations of marketing collaterals (event-related materials and mailings);
6. Processing, tracking and acknowledging gifts using HRW’s Raiser’s Edge database;
7. Ensuring accurate and timely recording of all campaigns, appeals, gifts, contact information and specific interests on Raiser’s Edge and providing reports when necessary;
8. Coordinating and managing the development of content for newsletters, mailings, programs, presentations;
9. Assisting with departmental hiring and training and overseeing departmental interns;
10. Processing expenses, answering phones and emails and processing incoming development mail;
11. Assisting with travel arrangements and follow-up;
12. Maintaining extensive files, contact lists and databases;
13. Performing tasks including filing, photocopying, scanning, faxing, word processing, maintaining databases, maintaining contact lists and subscriptions, bulk mailings, report filing and tracking; and
14. Carrying out other duties as required
Qualifications:
Education: A bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing, communications, business administration, nonprofit management, international relations, or other related field is required.
Experience:Prior administrative or office experience in a demanding and fast paced environment is required. 
Related Skills and Knowledge: 
1. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and French are required.
2. Strong interpersonal skills, energy and attention to details are required.
3. Strong organizational, administrative and financial skills are required.
4. Ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously is required.
5. Ability to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as function as a member of a team is required.
6. Prospect research or other research experience is highly desirable.
7. Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge and donor databasesis desirable.
8. Good judgment, discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality are essential.
9. Proficiency in computer packages including MS Office applications is required.
10. Strong interest in international human rights is desirable.
11. Ability to make sound decisions consistent with functions is required.
Other: Applicants for this position must possess current Swiss work authorization valid for a minimum of two years from start date.
