Public Relations and Communications Manager (Haiti)

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) in Haiti is recruiting for an experienced public relations professional to serve as the Public Relations and Communications Manager. This position is responsible for managing media and public relations initiatives with the goal of bringing broad and positive attention to Habitat for Humanity International’s Haiti recovery efforts, its partners and the cause of eliminating substandard housing. The position is based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

*Develop and oversee execution of public relations and media programs, including writing and distributing press releases and alerts; creating and maintaining media contact lists; cultivating ongoing and special-events coverage; tracking results of PR efforts; and providing media training for organizational representatives.
*Develop, oversee and maintain a strong social media presence for HFHI Haiti, including regular maintenance of websites.
*Support and work collaboratively with US headquarters and area office communications staff on PR/media opportunities.
*Support and work collaboratively with US headquarters and area office Resource Development staff on donor communications that include reports, proposal, and other resource development collateral.
*Serve as a key spokesperson for HFHI in official response to media inquiries.
*Help plan special events that will engage the media, then represent the organization and work with the media at those special events.
*Provide public relations and critical communication material related to the HFHI Haiti Disaster Response to other departments within HFHI.
*Stay knowledgeable of public opinion related to HFHI activities in Haiti.
*Manage general operations of the communications department, including budget recommendations; hiring and training; and working collaboratively with other HFHI staff locally, regionally and internationally on integrated communications campaigns and programs.
*Identify, research and write human interest stories (homeowner profiles, volunteer stories, etc.).
*Research or facilitate 'subject matter expert' type stories concerning urban poverty alleviation.
*Host high-level visitors, while promoting predefined talking points.
*Develop basic materials for volunteers.
*Manage other communications projects as needed.
 
Required Skills: 
*6-10 years of public relations/communications experience, including demonstrated knowledge of public and media relations concepts, techniques and practices.
*2+ years of supervisory experience, including hiring, training, appraising and motivating employees.
*Experience working in an international environment, strongly preferred.
*Ability to provide effective counsel on strategic and critical public relations issues.
*Strong knowledge of media markets including general, philanthropic, religious and construction sectors; strong media-pitch skills
*Outstanding written communications skills, with mastery of AP style.
*Outstanding oral communications skills, with ability to develop and deliver effective presentations.
*Commitment to fostering a collaborative work environment.
*Fluency in English, French and Creole.
*Familiar with media markets and outlets in Haiti.
*Ability and desire to represent HFHI as an ecumenical Christian ministry.
*First priority will be given to local candidates.*
